Giving and being a Christ-follower go hand in hand. There is more said in the Bible about our giving habits than just about any other topic discussed. Jesus talked more about this topic than He did on heaven, hell, or even prayer. To truly understand what it means to be a Christ-follower we must also understand what it means to be a giver.

Putting the First Things First

God already owns everything, but it is our heart that He desires more than anything. By setting aside the first part of our income for the local church, our hearts are turned to Christ. (Matthew 6:21)

Life Comes from Giving

Giving is the best antidote for materialism. The Bible makes it clear that by the giving that we do when we are generous we are able to “take hold of the life that is truly life.” You are not really living if you are not giving. (1 Timothy 6:19)

The Money Test

Giving is the only time and place in the Bible where God gives us permission to put Him to the test. He says give the first fruit of your income, the tithe (the first 10% of your income), to God and see if He does not open the floodgates of heaven to bless you in ways that you have never dreamed possible. (Malachi 3:10)

Investments in Eternity

You and I have the ability to invest in such a way that we will be paid dividends forever. Stocks may rise and fall, business may succeed or fail, but there is one sure investment that will never stop paying. Only two things will last forever; people and the Church. By investing in the life-changing message of the Church, you can truly leverage your money for an eternal reward and pay out. (1 Timothy 6:7)
